FAQs

Put simply, drivers are tools that help align, implant, and secure dental implants and prosthetics in place. They can attach and detach various abutments and types of implants with impeccable accuracy and precision. Used in conjunction with wrenches, they place and connect the impact- tightening them securely into the jawbone using measured torque. Drivers come in various shapes and sizes to work compatibly with different procedures and types of dental implants. Some are manually powered, while others are electric or air driven.
The two main types of dental surgeries that use drivers are implants and prosthetics. Both work in similar ways and some can be applied in either procedure. With dental implants, the driver is a lot more involved in the actual setting and tightening of the piece into the jawbone- while drivers for prosthetics are primarily used to attach and detach abutments. There are, however, many similarities between the designs. All types of drivers are made using high-quality stainless steel or carbon steel, and there are various lengths and widths available to enhance compatibility and versatility across surgeries.
Yes, there are. Although many standard dental implants and prosthetics can be secured using general drivers, some cannot. GDT Dental Implants has developed specific drivers to work compatibly with less common implants and prosthetic pieces that don’t fit the usual kits. There are also certain ranges built only for dental implants and others meant for prosthetic procedures. You can browse the individual collections separately for a better understanding of what tools are right for your practice and surgeries.
Dental driver kits come with the essential components required for most standard implant and prosthetic procedures. They have hex driver fittings as standard but can be converted to square settings on request. The kits include a manual driver adapter, hex driver adapter, and motor mount with dual fittings for 2.42mm internal implant fixation and 1.25mm prosthetic fixation. They do not come with a wrench (which is required in most procedures to achieve the desired torque), and specialist implants- such as root-shaped, one-piece, or flexible neck- will require specific drivers designed to fit those styles. The best solution is a combination of both. A kit gives you the essential core equipment, and then you can choose the best additions.
