La sutura de catgut crómico es una sutura quirúrgica estéril, recubierta y absorbible, tratada con una solución de sal de cromo para una mayor resistencia a la absorción.
La sutura de catgut crómico está compuesta por tejido conectivo purificado (principalmente colágeno) derivado de la capa serosa de los intestinos bovinos.
Las suturas quirúrgicas de catgut crómico están indicadas para su uso en la aproximación y/o ligadura general de tejidos blandos, incluyendo su uso en procedimientos oftálmicos, pero no para su uso en tejidos cardiovasculares y neurológicos, y proporcionan soporte a la herida durante 14-21 días.
La absorción completa se logra mediante un proceso digestivo enzimático proteolítico en un plazo de 90 días.
